This thesis focuses on multi-material topology optimization of Reissner-Mindlin plates. For finite element analysis, the locking-free three-node discrete shear gap element (DSG3) is employed. The Alternating Active Phase Algorithm (AAPA) is used to transform a multi-material topology optimization problem into a series of binary (i.e. two-phase) problems, which can be solved by the adjoint method.
